How You Can Help

Family & Children's Agency works with more than 500 volunteers each year who generously donate their time in support of our mission to building better lives for families in Fairfield County.

Our dedicated volunteers are diverse men and women who are in all stages of life. If you are interested in one-time volunteer opportunities for your corporation or family, or if you are looking to volunteer long-term based on your interests or passion, we offer a variety of ways for you to become involved and make a difference in our community.

Provide Homework Help to Students

Join a dynamic team of committed volunteers who provide guidance and homework help to middle and high school students in our ASPIRE after-school program at the Ben Franklin Center in Norwalk. Homework helpers are needed Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the academic year.

*No experience is necessary and volunteers can choose to volunteer one afternoon a week for a minimum of three months (academic year preferred). Adults and high school students are welcome.

Provide Office Support for an Agency Program

Several FCA programs utilize volunteers to help with general clerical assistance, including preparing information packets, answering phones, and sending out references. Computer knowledge and outstanding customer service is required.

Purchase Snacks for FCA Programs

This is a fun and easy way to get your family and friends involved with volunteering. Opportunities are available for volunteers to purchase and deliver snacks for clients in various FCA programs. Healthy options are preferred (fruit, crackers, granola bars) and due to health regulations, all snacks must be in their original package when delivered. Healthy snacks are regularly needed for women in our recovery program, students in the ASPIRE after-school program, and for homeless adults in our Community Connections program.

Sponsor an Activity or Field Trip

Support youth exposure to the arts, theater or sports by sponsoring a group activity or field trip! Children in our ASPIRE after-school, Foster Care, or Family Support programs would benefit from participating in a social activity, such as learning about marine life at the Maritime Aquarium or hanging out with friends at a Bridgeport Sound Tigers game. Volunteers are encouraged to attend and FCA program staff will always be present to supervise. There are many local possibilities and we are happy to work with you to coordinate a great experience for the youth in the program.

Facilitate a Workshop or be a Guest Speaker

Do you have a skill to share or want to be a guest speaker? Family & Children’s Agency welcomes individuals to teach clients new skills, including: yoga, sports, knitting, photography, art, music, etc. We are also looking for volunteers to speak/teach on special topics, including budgeting, time management, nutrition, organization, etc. Volunteers can make a one-time presentation or teach a scheduled class over a series of weeks. Days and times are flexible. Hours will vary depending upon program.
