Volunteer Highlight: ASPIRE Summer Interns

Aug 14, 2017 | ASPIRE, Volunteers

“I loved getting to know the students in FCA’s ASPIRE summer program. It was fun to connect with them through different activities and even learn fun facts about countries that I didn’t know,” said Mary. Mary is one of 10 ASPIRE summer volunteers, and interned with FCA this summer while working toward her Masters of Psychology.

“Our summer volunteers were an essential part of us being able to provide our students with a great experience this summer,” said Mary-Kate Locke, Family & Children’s Agency Director of Child & Family Development. “Not only did these volunteers become an important adult in the lives of the young people in our program, but they gained an opportunity to positively engage with local youth, and show their dedication and passion for being active in their community.”

The summer ASPIRE volunteers, ranging from high school seniors, to Master’s degree students, facilitated the daily operations of the program Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The interns were able to connect with the youth in the program, while also gaining real-life experience to help them identify their career and college study goals.
