Volunteer Appreciation: Sadiqua Azad

Apr 24, 2019 | Minks, Volunteers

“FCA has become a part of me,” said Sadiqua Azad.

For the past four years, Sadiqua has been volunteering as a member of Minks to Sinks, the massive tag sale held twice each year in Wilton to benefit Family & Children’s Agency. She like the idea of recycling items instead of discarding as well as volunteering alongside amazing women. This year, Sadiqua will be serving as a Day Chair, managing one day of the sale.

After just one year with Minks to Sinks, Sadiqua reached out to volunteer more time with the Agency. She began by using her teaching experience to care for babies and toddlers while their mothers attended a support group in our Child & Family Development Department.

Now, Sadiqua teaches a cooking class for clients experiencing homelessness in our Community Connections program. Approximately twice each month, she brings the necessary supplies so participants can make a healthy, inexpensive, delicious meal together.

“I love it,” she said. “Especially when I cook with them and they start telling me stories, they talk and you realize you have more in common than you think.”
