What is your position and how long have you been with FCA

I am an Intensive Family Preservation (IFP) worker for Family Support. In June will have been employed by FCA for two years but have been involved with FCA since I was an intern with the Caregiver Support Team (CST) since the fall of 2020.

Why do you think FCA’s work is integral for the community

As a social worker, I believe the work that FCA does throughout its various programs is imperative to the overall functioning of our community. During my short time with this agency, I have interacted with individuals who are facing some of the most difficult times in their lives and are facing situations that no one ever wants to be in. With the help of services like IFP I have watched countless clients learn how to advocate for themselves within the system and find their voices when they need them most. The endless determination and dedication individuals can bring to the table when they are given the chances and opportunities these programs provide to their clients is nothing short of inspiring.

What about your work for FCA are you most proud of and why

As a social worker, I am often asked by people not in the field, “How do you do it Isn’t the work too sad” My response to these questions is always the same; the rewards of being in this line of work far outweigh any of the sadness associated with the job. The work that I do for FCA, and interacting with our clients specifically, has made me into the social worker I am today. Doing this work has truly changed my perspective on all individuals, not just the ones we are helping. Working at FCA has ignited the passion I always knew I had for helping others. This work has enabled me to look at people through a lens that lets me see the good and positive attributes in others, even during their darkest times. In this field you learn that anyone can become a client and find themselves in this position. But more importantly, you also learn that anyone is capable of making and creating positive changes in their lives when they are given the proper support. My clients are the reason I love what I do. The relationships I get to build with them and the tools & education I get to instill in them, allows me to not only pass on knowledge, but to also create a safe space for their confidence in themselves and their families to grow and flourish. I could not ask for a better career or a better agency to support and work with!

What is your position and how long have you been with FCA

My name is Sidnee and I have been employed with FCA for 4.5 years as a Caregiver Support Team Worker. Asking for help can be a humbling experience for our clients.

Why do you think FCA’s work is integral for the community

FCA’s work in the community is so fundamental because it creates a safe haven for people to seek the support they need and a voice for the people who are typically ignored.

What about your work for FCA are you most proud of and why

Being a social worker means I wear many hats such as a community organizer, a case manager, a therapist, an advocate, and a lobbyist. As social workers, we all have a passion to help others. I am most proud of my ability to inspire families to be their best selves.
