Social Worker Month: Alex and Marthe

Mar 30, 2023 | Homelessness, Seniors, Staff
  1. Alex:
  2. What is your position and how long have you been with FCA

I am the Manager of Supportive Housing in the Community Connections department. I started at the agency as an intern and will be here 9 years next month!

  3. Why do you think FCA’s work is integral for the community

FCA is integral because of its ability to address the needs of the entire community. It’s rare to find a non-profit that can provide services for pregnant mothers and seniors under the same roof. FCA plays a fundamental role in the community and provides its clients with the opportunity to not only address their needs, but to thrive. Supporting the community with the range of services offered by FCA truly does change lives for the better, and I feel so lucky to be apart of it.

  4. What about your work for FCA are you most proud of and why

As a manager at FCA, I have the opportunity to supervise hard-working staff who assist previously homeless individuals and families in finding and sustaining housing. Assisting an individual at their lowest point and actually seeing growth and change is the most rewarding part of this position and without my staff, it wouldn’t happen. Our case managers are assisting clients in meeting a basic need and without that need met, other challenges are much more difficult to overcome. The previously homeless individuals we work with share a special bond with their case managers, and often don’t have many other supports due to decisions they made in the past. I am most proud of the diligent and dedicated staff I get the honor of supervising every day.

Marthe:

  1. What is your position and how long have you been with FCA
  2. I’ve been working for FCA for just over a year as the homecare social worker.
  3.
  4. Why do you think FCA’s work is integral for the community
  5.  FCA’s work is essential to the community as it gives clients, particularly our elderly population who live alone, a safe environment where they can receive the support they require and an advocate. FCA supports our community by offering a variety of crucial services for various age groups, including educational, behavioral, and social programs that many people are seeking but are unaware of or unsure of how to access them.

  7. I was able to collaborate with the state at the beginning of 2022 to plan a tablet drive for our clients. We were able to assist over 100 clients with free tablets which also came with a year of unlimited internet access. Due to COVID-19, some of these seniors didn’t have access to smartphones or other convenient means of communication, with the tablets they were then able to video call friends and family and enjoy some type of entertainment.
