A Taste of Fairfield County Sets Records to Help Homeless Adults

Nov 21, 2019 | Donors, Homelessness

Norwalk, Conn. – More than 150 people gathered Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Aitoro Appliance for the annual A Taste of Fairfield County to benefit Family & Children’s Agency (FCA). This year saw the greatest number of attendees and raised the most money in the events’ history.

Guests enjoyed small bites from area restaurants, delicious desserts, and an exciting raffle. Proceeds from this annual event support Family & Children’s Agency’s Community Connections programs for homeless adults, which provide a continuum of care for adults experiencing homelessness.

The 2019 Point-In-Time Count found 146 people experiencing homelessness in Norwalk, and more than 750 in Fairfield County. FCA’s programs include a day center, housing crisis 2-1-1 appointments, and supportive housing case management. Last year, more than 530 individuals and families at risk of immediate homelessness met with FCA staff to access benefits and services and 320 clients were served in the day center. Eviction prevention services have recently been added to the robust list of programs offered by the organization to community members experiencing a housing crisis.

“The Community Connections program is a vital resource to people in our own neighborhoods. I am so moved when I hear the stories of people who have experienced hardship and trauma and have regained self-sufficiency, and that is thanks to their hard work and the supporters of our programs,” said Robert F. Cashel, President & CEO of Family & Children’s Agency.

Participating restaurants included The Blind Rhino, Cask Republic, Fiesta Express, Flipside Burgers & Bar, Haruki, Mystic Market, Saltwater Restaurant & Bar, Washington Prime, Yalla Organic Hummus & Grill, Izzi B’s Allergen-Free Bakery, and Sweet Ashley’s Ice Cream. Drinks were provided by Connecticut Distributors Inc., Diageo, and ‘Merican Mule.

The event is the signature project of FCA’s Junior Board of Advisors, a group of young professionals who make a positive impact on the community by supporting Family & Children’s Agency.

“The Community Connections program is important year-round, but especially as the colder weather approaches. It’s amazing to have so many people come out for this event to help FCA provide care and resources for the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Kristi Ng, Co-Chair of the Junior Board of Advisors.
