Luis was just 16 when he was found face-down in a park, nearly dead from a fentanyl overdose. After years of abuse and neglect, it seemed he was headed down the path so many people in his family had already taken: addiction, homelessness, and being lost to the system.

When Luis first arrived at his FCA foster home, he’d already been through several placements and multiple stints in rehab. His walls were up, so much so that he did everything he could to get kicked out of his new home. But his foster parents refused to give up on him.

With your help, FCA gave the family the support they needed to keep pushing forward — together — through the tough times.

“Without FCA in our corner, I don’t think we could have done it,” says Kati, Luis’ foster mom. “FCA gave us the tools to figure out how we could be there for him. FCA fought for this family, and now it’s official: We adopted Luis in February.”

Once upon a time, Luis says, his only goal was to find a job so he could make enough money to buy drugs. But this past spring, he graduated from high school with plans to attend college. He has a happy, safe, hopeful life beyond anything he ever imagined.

“I have autism. I don’t cry. Kind of can’t cry,” Luis says. “But when I hear Kati talking about how she fought for me, that’s when I feel emotional. [FCA and my family] showed me the support and love I needed. I actually have this thing I thought was impossible — a future.”
