Addiction Recovery

Family & Children’s Agency offers Project REWARD the only program in southern Fairfield County that provides outpatient substance abuse treatment especially designed for women.  Through Project REWARD, we offer a continuum of care including an Intensive Outpatient Program and a variety of outpatient treatment options. The program is designed to meet the specific needs of women in recovery and to provide the support and safety that an all women’s program can insure. We have served clients living in lower Fairfield County since 1993.

Evaluation and Assessment

Clients who are referred to Project REWARD will meet privately with a clinician for a comprehensive substance abuse and mental health evaluation to determine the appropriate level of care.  Other services include:

  • Drug and Alcohol Screens
  • Hair Tests to Determine Long-Term Substance Use
  • Treatment Recommendations and Referrals
  • Extended Evaluations/Consultations
  • Early Intervention and Engagement

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

This level of care is for women who are actively working toward their recovery.  The IOP program meets three days per week for three hours each day.  The average length of stay is 12 weeks.

Groups Include:

  • Relapse Prevention Skills
  • Substance Abuse Education
  • Emotion/Anger Management  Skills
  • Stress Management Techniques
  • Mindfulness/Relaxation
  • Domestic Violence Issues
  • Parenting
  • Health and Nutrition Education
  • Co-dependency Issues

Additional components of IOP:

  • Psychiatric Evaluation, if needed
  • Medication Management
  • Drug and Alcohol Screens
  • Case Management
  • Individual Counseling
  • Referral to a Higher Level of Care, if needed


Services provided at this level of care are appropriate for those who have completed our intensive outpatient program, as well as women in the community with long- term recovery. Outpatient treatment offers continued support and connection for women moving forward with their lives.  Outpatient Services include:

  • Individual, Group & Family Therapy
  • Psychiatric Evaluation, if needed
  • Medication Management
  • Drug  and Alcohol Screens
  • Case Management/Employment  Guidance
  • Anger Management
  • Aftercare

We make it easy to participate…

  • Childcare for children age one month to five years is provided during program hours.
  • Transportation provided within our catchment area – (Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Westport, Weston, and Wilton)
  • Insurance -Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance accepted. Generally there is no out of pocket expense for the client.


The Project REWARD staff consists of a multidisciplinary treatment team including: a psychiatrist, licensed, master’s level substance abuse clinicians, and a child development specialist. The staff has extensive experience working with women in recovery and their children.
