How To Help

Teen Volunteer Opportunities

HIGH SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS

Family & Children’s Agency offers two ways for high school students to volunteer directly with our clients:

Junior Project Friendship – be a mentor in the Agency’s mentoring program that matches high school juniors and seniors with “Little Friends” ages 6-12.

After School Program – be a homework helper in the Agency’s after school program for 48 Norwalk middle school students located at Norwalk Community College.

There are several differences between our Mentoring and our After School Program, but both offer a wonderful experience for a teen volunteer. Many students write about their volunteer experience in their college application essays, or use the volunteer hours to fulfill community service requirements.

OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENS

Family & Children’s Agency provides volunteer opportunities for students of all ages including:

Be a Collection Coordinator
Organize a collection at your school, youth group, church or synagogue. You can also ask parents, trusted neighbors, family and friends to donate.

Fundraise for a Program
You may choose to hold a fundraiser to raise money to donate or to purchase items for a specific program.  This is a great way to have a group of friends volunteer together. Some types of activities include: bake sales, lemonade stands, car washes, babysitting, and raking leaves.

Be Creative
Create an arts and crafts activity for students, sponsor a party for a program, or knit a scarf for a homeless client.
