Thank you to all who supported IMAGINE 2013: A Night in Italy at Woodway Country Club in Darien!
On May 4, Woodway Country Club in Darien opened its doors to nearly 200 guests supporting Family & Children’s Agency for its annual Benefit. This year’s Benefit, “IMAGINE 2013: A Night in Italy,” was inspired by the medley of art, music, food and opulent beauty that embodies Italy. The event’s co-chairs were Michelle Callaghan, Fucsia Nissoli Fitzgerald, Jacqueline Kornblau, Barbara Zichichi and Board of Directors Chairman Julene Greenshields. Three of the five co-chairs, Fucsia, Jacqueline and Barbara, hail from Italy and provided Italian inspiration and authenticity in every detail. The event raised nearly $250,000 to support the children & families, youth, adults and seniors supported by Family & Children’s Agency.
The evening, which included cocktails, live and silent auctions, dinner and dancing, was led by Master of Ceremonies and Auctioneer Randye Kaye. The Carruthers Brothers Band offered its talents to music during both the cocktail hour and dinner.
President & CEO Robert F. Cashel welcomed the evening’s guests and presented radio stations STAR 99.9, 95.9 The FOX and 99.1 WPLR with the Family & Children’s Agency Community Caring Award for their immediate and generous donation to the Agency when its primary service location was severely damaged by Tropical Storm Sandy. Their efforts allowed the Agency to move forward, despite its losses, without interrupting services to clients.
In addition to more than 60 silent auction items, the crowd bid on four fabulous live auction packages: a Big Green Pizza Truck party for 50 with live music; a trip for two and “insider access” to TV Guide Magazine’s Annual “Hot List” party in Los Angeles; a unique cultural experience to Sicily; and four courtside tickets to see the Knicks in series two of the playoffs.
One highlight of the evening was a presentation by Christian Chapparo, a 20-year-old Stamford resident and Norwalk Community College student who participated in the Agency’s Community Based Life Skills Program, which is a component of the Specialized Foster Care program. A natural public speaker, guests were inspired by Christian’s speech in which he discussed his personal experiences, perseverance and his positive outlook toward the future. His emphasis on the significance of programs for youth, including foster care, and the support he’s received from Family & Children’s Agency staff motivated many for the Call to Action paddle raise at the end of the evening, led by Randye Kaye.
The event’s individual sponsors were Charlie and Georgia Adams, John and Michelle Callaghan, Alexander and Jill Dimitrief, Ana Goizueta and Peter Clark, Simon and Julene Greenshields, the Herlyn Family, Sharon Sullivan and Jeffrey Kindler, Jim and Lisa Lillie, Kathleen and Peter Murphy, Mr. and Mrs. William O. Murphy, the Thomas and Maria Wilcox Family Foundation, and the Tim and Sheryl Williams Family. Corporate sponsors included FactSet Research Systems, First County Bank, GE Capital, Jarden Corporation, JetBlue Airways, Media Storm, People’s United Bank, and Whitman Breed Abbott & Morgan LLC. In addition, Glen Gate Company provided a special matching gift during the evening’s Call to Action. Radio stations STAR 99.9, 95.9 The FOX and 99.1 WPLR along with Moffly Media were the event’s media sponsors.
“IMAGINE 2013 was a wonderful evening, and I am so grateful to our five co-chairs for their tireless efforts and dedication,” said Robert F. Cashel, President & CEO of Family & Children’s Agency. “I would also like to thank all of our guests for making such an incredible evening, and especially our sponsors, who help us reach the more than 10,000 children & families, youth, adults and seniors who need support.”
